Services (cont.) Ayurveda for Animals As people are distinctive in their bodies and minds, so are animals. Ayurveda healing techniques also apply to animals and each can be treated according to the animal‘s individual constitution. As with people, each animal must be analyzed to determine constitution and condition. Case Study A female Doberman was diagnosed as having a “lick granuloma.” She would lick her paws until they were raw and bleeding. A veterinarian had been giving her drugs to calm the redness, however every year, the licking started in late winter to early spring. At this time, she has abused her paw so badly she can barely walk. In Ayurvedic terms, this Doberman has a “Pitta” constitution. This problem becomes advanced in summer at the height of “Pitta Season,” which is the time of Pitta accumulation. This dog has been treated with natural herbs to cool her system which help alleviate the condition. Her diet was changed to also reflect this cool tendency with accentuation on the more “cooling energy” found in certain foods. Heating foods are naturally removed from her diet. Through the treatment of herbs, the dog became balanced throughout these aggravating months, and her granuloma was contained. Animal Evaluation/Consultation:
